The Grand is a fitting place for a casino night as this historic building was home to the Grand Casino and later Genting Casino for many years.

Every penny raised will go towards ICU Steps, run by former intensive care patients and relatives.

The charity, which helped Andrew Mikhail and his family following his near death experience and his long recuperation afterwards, aims to improve the care and support for patients recovering from critical illness.

In 2022, following a cardiac arrest, Andrew’s heart stopped for 17 minutes while battling a severe Covid infection before determined NHS staff brought him back to life.

Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group Chairman Andrew Mikhail said:

“This is a special night which is my way of saying a huge thank you to the NHS and to the ICU Steps charity for all they did for me and my family and for everyone else during the Covid pandemic.

“This is the fourth fundraising event I have hosted at The Grand, and it is dedicated to all those who lost their lives, or lost loved ones, during the pandemic, and to all those whose lives were impacted by Covid.

“I am looking forward to the biggest night of the year for me personally because the nurses, physios and doctors who worked so hard to save my life during Covid attend this.

“I sadly witnessed so many lovely people, one by one, lose their fight for life while I was in hospital.

“I do this wholeheartedly in memory of them.

“I made a promise that I would never forget the patients or what the NHS did for me and my family. They are the reason I’m here today against all the odds.

“This is going to be a fantastic night out packed with great entertainment throughout all three floors of The Grand.

“So many people keep telling me how much they miss being able to visit a casino in Southport!

“The Grand is famous for its many years as The Grand Casino – it’s where I enjoyed my first date with my wife, Vicky.

“We will have lots of casino games that people can play; come in and buy as many chips as you want.

“This will be a fun Las Vegas style night with blackjack, roulette, craps tables just to mention a few. We want to see people coming in and having a go!

“There will be great prizes to be won for players who finish first, second and third on the night.

“You can win lots of prizes via our raffle.

“Come and see some superb live entertainment from several acts, headlined by the unbelievably talented X Factor finalist Ray Quinn.

“We have a variety of current and old school DJs on all floors. Baz Todd and Ste Cocky will both be in the house.

“It is going to be a fantastic fundraising event.”
