The Atkinson on Lord Street in Southport

The Atkinson in Southport is seeking to recruit a Performing Arts Programmer to develop an innovative and engaging year-round programme of high-quality performance events, activities and projects.

The programme will be focused at The Atkinson, which is based on Lord Street, but on occasion may extend throughout Sefton to ensure that opportunities for cultural engagement are delivered across the borough.

The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of contemporary practice across the performing arts, and a proven track record of audience development in a commercial environment.

Experience of developing the programming for a performing arts venue is essential for this role; you are expected to have a detailed understanding of the marketplace for performing arts.

You will be committed to increasing audiences, access and engagement with culture and the performing arts so that The Atkinson maintains its status as an excellent regional venue for arts, heritage, literature and information.

You will have a strong entrepreneurial vision for maximising income from The Atkinson’s programmes, and be able to demonstrate effective negotiating skills within the performing arts sector.

The Atkinson will be open to the public on some evenings and at weekends. Therefore, the postholder may be required to work at these times when it is necessary to meet the needs of the service. Travel across Sefton and the North West region is also likely to be required from time to time.
