Investors are being sought to improve the facilities at one of Southport’s oldest golf courses.

Sefton Council is inviting interested parties to submit their interest to improve Southport Municipal Golf Links through its procurement portal.

The course has the distinction of being England’s first Municipal Links Course opening in 1912. Golfers who developed their skills here include Southport’s Tommy Fleetwood, now one of the world’s top players.

The local authority has begun the formal process exploring opportunities for investment at the facility, including the potential development of the White House Café building on Park Road West and further development opportunities on the golf course itself.

The first development opportunity invites bids for proposed development of the ‘White House Café,’ better known as the course’s original clubhouse, which has been used as an on-site café.

Sefton says that the second proposal incorporates the current course layout itself and presents “an excellent regeneration opportunity”.

The council says that “with investment, the course could be developed to offer a better quality course which appeals to beginner and established golfers alike”.

Southport Municipal Golf Links is an 18 hole golf course open to all visitors and local residents.

It is located centrally in Southport close to the Marine Lake and Hesketh Park easily accessible to all with free parking and great transport links.

The unique course was designed by one of the world’s leading golf course architects Harry Shapland Colt with visitors coming from all over the world to play the wonderful greens.

The 18 hole course has varying tees and is an excellent course to test yourself.

Southport golfer Tommy Fleetwood, one of the world’s leading golfers, famously started his career as a Junior at Southport Municipal Golf Links.

Anyone interested in this exciting investment opportunity or requiring more information should visit the procurement portal here.
