The search has begun to find someone truly exceptional to win the 2024 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by LWC.

Organisers are asking people across Sefton to suggest who has gone to extraordinary lengths to improve the lives of others.

Whoever wins will be following in very exalted footsteps, after the award went to Sir Kenny Dalglish MBE and Marina Dalglish last year in a glittering ceremony at The Grand in Southport.

You can submit your nominations via the Pride Of Sefton Awards website: prideofseftonawards.co.uk or email: standupforsouthport@gmail.com

The winners and finalists will be honoured at the Grand on Lord Street in Southport on Friday, 26th April 2024.

Submissions are being sought from Southport, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Maghull, Aintree, and across the borough.

The category is being sponsored by LWC, the largest independent wholesaler of beers, wines and spirits in the country.

Established in 1979, LWC has grown from a small start-up to the “fastest growing privately owned drinks company in the UK”.

With over 8,000 different product lines and over 13,500 on-trade customers, LWC delivers the broadest range and greatest service available in the UK drinks industry.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises a person or people who have made an outstanding and lasting contribution to life in Sefton.

There will be no shortlist for this title announced prior to this award – instead the judging panel will reflect on potential candidates during the process and the winner will be awarded on the night.

The bar has been set extremely high.

Last year’s winner, Sir Kenny Dalglish and Marina Dalglish have been an integral part of life in Southport and across the Liverpool City Region ever since they moved to the town in 1977, when ‘King Kenny’ signed in a British record transfer fee from Celtic.

In the years since this humble, generous, talented, determined couple have had an incredible

impact on the lives of thousands of local people and their families – for which they will forever be grateful.

Sir Kenny and Marina Dalglish have been selfless, determined and energetic in support of people when they needed it the most, whether in pursuit of better cancer diagnosis, services and support, or in the aftermath of the Hillsborough tragedy.

The Marina Dalglish Appeal has raised over £13 million to improve the lives of people fighting cancer and continues to campaign for women to “get checked”.

It was set up by the Dalglish family in 2005 ‘to do something to help’ after Marina was successfully treated for breast cancer in 2003.

With the invaluable help of an army of volunteers, supporters, friends and family they have touched many aspects of cancer care for thousands of people in the North West.

Sir Kenny Dalglish MBE is one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Liverpool’s greatest ever player, he won six League titles and three European Cups as a player, with three League titles as a Manager, in addition to his huge haul of honours with Celtic and Blackburn Rovers.

He has supported wife Marina with her fundraising and cancer awareness campaigns.

He was Manager of Liverpool when the Hillsborough Tragedy took place, and despite the huge toll it took on him personally, he and his family gave huge support to players and supporters affected.
