Grantham Arms hosts Simon and Joe are competing in Channel 4 TV series Four in a Bed

The Grantham Arms in Boroughbridge kicked off this week’s ‘War of the Roses’ Four in a Bed TV series on Monday night with a big North Yorkshire welcome as Southport guest host owners Sarah and Ricky Blaney got a chance to see what they are up against this week.

Grantham Arms hosts Simon and Joe left a great impression on all their guests with their dazzling décor, Joe’s friendly hosting skills and their delicious cooked breakfasts.

Simon, who revealed he has 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, said: “I think the decor is all about celebrating being in Yorkshire” with a real sense of understatement, with signs  ‘Yorkshire Lad’ and ‘Yorkshire Lass’ above each pillow on the beds. Rightly proud of all things Yorkshire.

Sarah and Rick Blaney, who own the stylish The Stamford guest house in Southport, were impressed with their first visit, scoring the pair a generous 10 marks out of 10 for their hosting saying that Simon and Joe “make a great team”.

Later this week they will be competing against another Yorkshire pub with rooms, in a battle to see which side of the Pennines will triumph, as well as a glamping site in Derbyshire.

Sarah and Ricky scored The Grantham facilities 8 out of 10, saying they would have liked more plug sockets.

The Stamford is a stylish self-accommodation provider in Southport which allows guests to self check-in, and provides for guests’ needs of today.

Ricky said: “We want people to be able to check in whenever suits them.

“We have got the sort of technology you find in a big budget hotel.

“I hate having to hunt for a plug socket or a USB port behind some furniture.”

Sarah said: “One of our frustrations is when you stay somewhere and you try to charge your mobile phone next to your bed and you can’t.”

The Grantham’s delicious cooked breakfast was great and overall they indicated they would like to stay there again.
