A former Victorian bank in Birkdale Village in Southport could soon be converted into a pizza takeaway.
A planning application has been submitted to open the business at 3 – 5 Liverpool Road in Birkdale, which was previously occupied by Angela Kerr Aesthetics and Skincare, while operating as the Williams and Glyn’s Bank many years ago.
The development would include the installation of extraction and ventilation equipment and minor external alterations.
The first and second floors are occupied by Handley Law Solicitors.
It is not yet known which firm would operate the pizza takeaway.
Pegasus Group has been instructed by SK Ltd (the applicant) to submit an application for Full Planning Permission for the change of use of the site.
In their submission, they said: “The application site is located within Birkdale. It comprises a three-storey building, with the site extending to the ground floor only, with the upper floors currently in office use.

“The ground-floor commercial unit extends to 136 m2 and was most recently occupied as a beauty salon, but was historically a bank. It is currently vacant and is believed to have been so since mid-2025.
“The surrounding area is commercial in nature, including restaurants, cafes and shops.
“The site is well separated from existing hot food takeaways, with the closest being Village Fish and Chips, approximately a 100m walk to the west of the site.
“ The site has access to an area of hard standing, accessed from Liverpool Road, which provides approximately 4 parking spaces, which are shared with the upper-floor offices. Additional on-street loading provision is available on Liverpool Road directly east of the site entrance.
“The site has access to an array of public transport connections, including from the bus stops located directly opposite the premises on Liverpool Road, which provide services to Woodvale, Liverpool and Crossens. Birkdale train station is also approximately 50m south of the site, which provides regular Merseyrail services.

“The application proposes the Change of Use of the ground floor commercial unit of the building to a Hot Food Takeaway.
“Once all the necessary consents are in place, the unit will operate as a pizza takeaway providing a gross internal floor space at the ground floor level of 136m2, with the associated customer area extending to 15m2.
“The takeaway is proposed to operate between 11.00 and 23.00 daily, generating a number of full-time and part-time employment opportunities, with a number of employees being recruited from the local area.
“The bank is thought to have been constructed between 1894 and 1911, with mapping from 1911 showing the Site annotated as ‘Bank’ but still as a semi-detached building.
“The high street in Birkdale had largely been redeveloped by this date, with most of the houses along Liverpool Road having been demolished and replaced with shops.”
