Cooksons nursery on St Peters Road in Birkdale in Southport

A former garden centre in Southport could be replaced by houses.

Cooksons Nursery and Florists, at 17-19 St Peter’s Road in Birkdale, could be replaced by four new homes.

Forest Hill EUT has submitted a planning application for the scheme to Sefton Council.

The proposal is to demolish the existing greenhouses and stores which currently form the garden centre. The existing house would be retained.

The number of car parking spaces at the site would be increased from two to nine while a new access road would be built.

The proposed development lies close to St Peter’s Church, a Grade II Listed building.

The house type to plot 1 opposite the church has been developed to fit in with the type and style of housing surrounding.

The remainder of the development, being some distance away from the houses fronting onto St Peters Road, would be of a more modern design.

A large open space kitchen  /living room, and toilet will be on the ground floor; the lounge and two bedrooms together with the family bathroom would be on the first floor; with a further bedroom built within the loft space.
