Sam Avery

Facebook sensation Sam Avery is starring at Southport Comedy Festival this week, with his new tour on life as a parent!

Sam Avery – Role Model will be in the Festival Marquee at Victoria Park, Southport this Wednesday 12th October 2022).

He earned rave reviews with his original tour about parenthood, which has since translated into a best-selling book called Confessions Of A Learner Parent.

“I always wanted kids – but then again, I always wanted a loft conversion. Both are pretty easy to put off as they’re very expensive and tend to wreck your house,” he said.

The Liverpudlian stand-up comedian (aka the Learner Parent) began his award-winning blog when his twin boys were born.

A million nappies, Peppa Pig episodes and a lot less sleep later, he went on to share all the lows, highs and hilarious in-betweens of his experiences of first-time parenthood in his highly anticipated first book.

He is now back on tour in Southport, sharing tales of his more recent experiences now that his boys are growing older – and bringing a new set of challenges to face.

These days, With two children looking to him for guidance, it’s high-time he evolved into the role model he always thought he’d be. But he didn’t sleep well last night and being a hero is harder than it looks. Plus, he forgot to put the bins out and now his wife hates him.

In this side-splitting new stand-up show, Sam explores what it means to be a role model in modern Britain, how the people he looked up to shaped his world, and how the struggle to help his kids find their moral compass often causes him to misplace his own.

Can you be a role model on four hours sleep?

Can you mentor someone who thinks you’re a moron?

And how do you change the world if you can’t even clean your kitchen?

Sam Avery said: “The show is all about parenting! It is about second guessing yourselves all the time – as a parent do you set a good enough example to everyone?

“Are we good enough as the role models that we want to be?

“And what does make a good role model?

“The people I used to look up to when I was growing up were people like footballers, or rock stars, or other celebrities – when I look back now, some of them didn’t turn out to become such great role models at all!”
