Everton WSL star Simone Magill and Southport MP Damien Moore have officially launched the new beer garden and bar at Skies on Lord Street in Southport.
The new independent business, which employs 11 local people, partially opened in August last year but has spent most of the past few months closed due to national Covid lockdowns.
During that time, owner NG Chindam and his team have been busy transforming the previously empty venue into a stunning new venue.
Guests can enjoy seating outside on Lord Street; a bar and restaurant area inside, with the eye-catching Victorian skylight a real feature; while a newly-created beer garden to the rear guarantees peace and quiet and privacy in a real suntrap.
The design and architecture has been carried out by Southport firm Clayton Architecture.
Skies Director NG Chindam said: “We are so happy that our new beer garden was launched on Friday by the Right Honourable Member of Parliament for Southport Damien Moore while our cocktail and wine bar was inaugurated by champion football player Simone Magill on Sunday.

“We are so glad for the support we have been receiving from local people for small and independent businesses like us.
“I really appreciate all the people and businesses in Southport for their well wishes passed on to us.
“I would also like to thank the team at Sefton Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority who are trying to support small and medium businesses across the region during this challenging period.
“We started our little start-up venture with great faith in the industry and the people of Southport.
“We have currently employed 11 people from the local area – some of them have just started the first job of their life with Skies.

“As a director, I am glad and happy to provide employment and professional certification qualifications.
“I really hope we grow by providing best in class customer service and a serene atmosphere in our bar venue with its great Victorian skylight feature on Lord Street, one of the best-looking streets in the UK.“
Skies is situated at 459 Lord Street, Southport, opposite Sainsbury’s supermarket, at the heart of Lord Street’s trendy ‘Northern Quarter’.
For local entrepreneur NG Chindam, Skies has been a real labour of love.
He has worked as an IT consultant, with over 20 years’ experience. But last year he decided on a change of career and is passionate about providing new employment in the town.
He said: “These Covid lockdowns have been incredibly challenging. I wanted to get Skies open after the Government lifted restrictions. We got a great team together. It was all thanks to the support of people and workers in Southport. If this was anywhere else, we could not have done this.
“Clayton Architecture, headed by Joe Clayton, has done some superb work for us. They sorted out everything from arranging planning permission to creating the design and giving our business a great new look. They have done an amazing job, Joe has been great to work with.”
Clayton Architecture has led the redesign of the building which has created a more welcoming frontage and a much more pleasant environment for customers, with its famed skylight bringing light into the building.
Director Joe Clayton said: “I can definitely say I was impressed with the quality of the coffee! And with the restaurant space opening up I think people will be amazed at what has been achieved.
“I can’t wait to see the end product up and running.”

NG Chindam said: “I love Southport, and Lord Street is one of the fantastic streets in the UK!
“Lord Street has stunning architecture, and so many great buildings!
“I can’t describe how tough 2020 was, for us and for other businesses in Southport. Every day has been a challenge.
“This has been the most challenging period of my life.
“Now we have launched our bar and beer garden, I am extraordinarily pleased to see this place looking so good.
“Our outdoor seating has been really popular, it’s a great place to sit outside.
“We have enjoyed enormous support from people locally. Lots of people walking past have stopped to wish us well.
“People are very happy to be back enjoying restaurants and bars in Southport again and we look forward to welcoming them.”
