David H Myers Opticians is celebrating 45 years of providing top quality eye care for generations of families across the north of England.
The independent, family-run business was founded by David Myers in Churchtown village in 1980. Following the success of this, a second practice on London Street in Southport town centre was opened in 1984 and is now the flagship store of the company. With the business growing from strength to strength, the Lytham branch was opened in 1992, shortly followed by Leeds in 1997, Penwortham in 2002 and Cleveleys in 2022.
All 6 practices are individual and have a senior partner who runs the practice on a day-to-day basis and ensures the ethos of the company is carried through. Alongside this, each practice has a carefully chosen team of fully qualified, professional staff, most of which have been with David H Myers for at least 10 years.

David H Myers Opticians Managing Director, Ben Myers said:
“This is very much a family-run business. My father, David, semi-retired four years ago in 2020, and I took over running the business.
“I have been in the company for the past 10 years in Southport, and I was in Leeds for four years before that where I studied to become an optician.
“We have around 50 employees altogether. All our employees have bought into our ethos. It means that patients have the convenience of knowing they can enjoy the quality of visiting a David H Myers Opticians in a variety of places, and know exactly what they are going to get, while being looked after by a local, family-run business.
“Many of our patients have been with us for generations, we know them really well. We build relationships with people, which is important to us.

Eyecare has always been a top priority for David H Myers Opticians. Their optometrists are keen to expand their knowledge and get involved in additional services, some of which include, cataract assessments and post operative care, learning difficulty pathways and emergency eyecare.

David H Myers Opticians have invested in the latest cutting-edge technology to ensure patients’ eye health is paramount. An example of this, is being able to offer an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) at all 6 practices.
An OCT is an instant, non-invasive technique using light waves to generate a cross-sectional image of the ocular tissues at the back of the eye. It creates a 3D image to look beneath the surface of the regular retinal image, resulting in a more detailed insight into your eye health.

It can be particularly useful in detecting and monitoring conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema and glaucoma.
