The owners of Connolly’s Irish pub in Southport say they have been ‘overwhelmed’ with support from people since they reopened their doors over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The pub on King Street, opposite Southport Market, has been closed over the past five months due to the extensive public realm works taking place in the Market Quarter area.
The £6.25 million scheme, being led by Sefton Council and carried out by Balfour Beatty, began in January and is due to be complete this November.
A brand new pavement has now been created outside the pub, so delighted customers can now call in once again.

The reopening was officially carried out by Southport Town Crier Kevin Ruane ahead of a weekend packed with live music and entertainment.
The venue is a real Southport landmark, known for many years as The Coronation, until it closed at the onset of the Covid Pandemic in March 2020.
It was transformed and reopened last year as Connolly’s Irish pub by owner Julie Goodwin and her team.
Julie said: “From all of us at Connolly’s – thank you.

“What an incredible few days it’s been. Since reopening our doors, we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the love, laughter, and support that’s poured into Connolly’s.
“To our fabulous staff, live acts, our darts team, our wonderful customers, family, friends, regulars – and everyone who’s stayed loyal to us through it all – thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
“You’ve filled the pub with music, joy, and craic, and reminded us exactly why Connolly’s is so special.
“The last few days have been nothing short of amazing, and it’s all down to you – your loyalty and support mean the world.

“Here’s to many more pints, songs, and nights to remember at Connolly’s Irish pub.
“We are stronger together, and we couldn’t do it without you.”
Connolly’s Irish pub held its reopening celebration event on Saturday 23rd August 2025.
People calling in were treated to live music from popular local musicians Carl and George with free shots for customers.

Connolly’s opened on Saturday, 11th May 2024, creating 15 new jobs.
The venue is famous for its live music.
In April, Connollys was among three venues in the Liverpool city region which hosted successful Open Mic nights organised by BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Merseyside. Inside is a large mural celebrating some of Ireland’s most legendary sporting heroes including footballer George Best, snooker player Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins and golfer Rory McIlroy.
Further ambitions for one of Southport’s landmark buildings includes converting the ground floor unit adjacent to Connolly’s Irish pub to become a new Catherine’s restaurant and wine bar.
After that is complete the ambition is to begin phase three, which will see the creation of new Catherine’s luxury hotel and spa rooms on the first and second floors of the building.
