Coffee King is getting ready to open its new venture on Lord Street in Southport town centre.

The growing firm, which already has outlets in West Kirby, Bromborough and Liverpool ONE, will convert the former 365 Lord Street premises.

This beautiful unique building is situated between Occulo Lounge and Parkinson’s Books, and was previously occupied by 92 Degrees Coffee, and before that, by Monsoon.

Southport coffee lovers will soon be able to call in and get their coffee fix, sandwiches, snacks, cold drinks and more.

Sefton Council has now granted Listed Building Consent for internal alterations and for the installation of external signage to the front elevation, which will complement the Lord Street Conservation Area.

Coffee King submitted an amended shopfront plan, elevations and signage details, which have now been signed off by Sefton’s Planning department, following feedback from the council’s Conservation Officer.

The plan altered the signage to be metal which improved the design of the proposal.

How the new Coffee King frontage on Lord Street in Southport will look

In their report, Sefton’s Planning team said: “The proposed fascia signs are considered acceptable in terms of their scale, positioning, and relationship with the architectural features of the host building. The amended drawings proposed metal signage, which offers a more sympathetic and visually appropriate finish which better complements the historic character of the building.

“The proposal is regarded as having a neutral impact on the listed building and is considered to preserve the character of the conservation area.

“The application has been reviewed by the Conservation Officer, and no objections have been raised subject to the recommended conditions.”

The shopfront will remain as existing with the only inclusion being brand signage.

The customer café area will benefit from decoration of walls up to the marble picture rail at around three metres. Above this will be left untouched and remain white.

The ornate ceiling to the high level café area will remain untouched. The rear ceilings will be decorated white.

It heralds even more investment for Lord Street, which has seen:

  • the opening of the new Sirocco restaurant at The Grand
  • the new Wine & Words by Watson
  • the refurbishment of The Carlton
  • plans granted for 137 hotel rooms and 11 residential apartments at The Garrick, the UK’s first theatre spa hotel, with work starting in May
  • plans granted for a 30 bed Wetherspoon Hotel
  • The opening of the Turkish Nazar restaurant
  • LOL Bingo lounge now open
  • Work continuing on the new climbing gym in Albany Buildings

Earlier this year, plans were announced for the £10 million transformation of the Town Hall gardens in Southport, led by the families of Bebe, Elsie and Alice.
Coffee King, based in Runcorn, is headed by CEO and founder Sean le Tissier,

He comes from an IT and telecoms background and headed European companies at the forefront of telecoms innovation.

On the Coffee King website it says: “His passion and heart has always been with the small roasted bean that packs a punch and is enjoyed by millions of people around the world.

“He is focused on premium quality and bringing our exceptional coffee blend into everyone’s household.

“His drive for excellence can be seen throughout the many arms that the Coffee King Group has now expanded into.”
