The Climate and Sustainability Action Business Network (CASA) has enjoyed visits to Bootle and Seaforth as it continues to grow its network of local businesses interested in sustainability.

The group’s last meeting took place at Southport Eco Centre

This time they headed to south Sefton for an inspirational day out.

CASA is organised by The Hearth, a non-profit Community Interest Company which empowers communities to create a sustainable, resilient, and creative future.

The Hearth Directors Rebecca Armstrong and Nadia Speers-Robinson said:

“Bright and early on Wednesday morning (6th August 2025), our Climate and Sustainability Action Business Network gathered at Southport train station to kick off a day of inspiration, collaboration, and green action!

“Our first stop was the incredible Emmaus Merseyside in Seaforth, where we were warmly welcomed by Katie for a tour of their thriving community garden and hub. Her passion and knowledge lit up the morning, and we were lucky to host our Earth Day planning meeting in one of their fantastic pods — what a space!

“We were also joined by the absolute powerhouse that is Tracy Holgate from Sefton Council’s Tourism team.

CASA at the Bootle Hive

“Tracy, founder of Sefton’s Visitor Economy Sustainability Task Force, shared her vision for building a sustainable supply chain to support tourism across the region — a truly exciting prospect for our network.

“Together, we reflected on the success of this year’s Great Big Green Lunch and made great strides in planning for next year’s Earth Day and Green Lunch events. So much energy, so many ideas.

“After a brilliant morning in Seaforth, our Climate and Sustainability Action Business Network hopped back on the train and headed to Bootle New Strand for the next leg of our sustainability tour.

“First stop: The Big Onion — a vibrant space dedicated to supporting residents and businesses across the region through a wide range of initiatives. It was great to see their premises and learn more about the work they’re doing to strengthen community resilience.

“Following a quick lunch break, we made our way to The Bootle Hive, where we were welcomed by Liz and Derek from Sefton Council’s Healthy Green Homes team.

“They gave us an eye-opening demo of their retrofit and green jobs programme, showcased in their state-of-the-art immersive suite — a brilliant piece of work designed by CASA member Darren Lloyd from Southport Eco Centre.

“If you’re ever in Bootle on a Wednesday, we highly recommend popping in to make your climate pledge!

“In our dedication to sustainability, we’re proud to share that the meetings were free from single-use plastics, and the vast majority of attendees travelled by public transport — with several going door-to-door without stepping foot in a car.

“A huge thank you to everyone who joined us — your energy and ideas are helping shape a greener, more connected future for Sefton.”
