Sponsored feature for The Grand Southport by Stand Up For Southport

Christmas began with a BANG in Southport as The Grand and The Bold on Lord Street welcomed thousands of visitors to their festive lights switch on with a spectacular fireworks display.

The Grand offered three floors of Christmas entertainment on an unforgettable day for local families.

The venue has continued to develop this year with the opening of Harry’s Bar and Sky Bar.

Children enjoyed a Children’s Christmas Party in the Princess Grace Suite on the first floor, with a DJ, party games, writing letters to Santa, decorating gingerbread, and Christmas bauble making.

They were then treated to special visits from Father Christmas, The Grinch and Mini Grinch.

The newly-opened Harry’s Bar on the top floor hosted a Festive Bottomless Brunch.

And on the ground floor, in The Grand Brasserie and Chloe’s Piano Bar, diners enjoyed meals from the new Grand Christmas Menu and Festive Afternoon Tea ahead of the big Christmas Lights Switch On, hosted by In Demand Radio and Dune Radio presenter Claire Simmo.

Outside, families enjoyed warming hot chocolate and mulled wine from festive stalls along the pavement.

Guests enjoyed fabulous entertainment with festive songs from Southport Wellbeing Choir, and soul singer Dave Broe, before Father Christmas appeared in time for the big Christmas countdown.

Thousands of lights then burst into life inside the venue, around the huge Christmas tree, and outside.

On the opposite side of Lord Street, The Bold organised a Light Up The Sky event where people gathered on the terrace to enjoy Yorkshire pudding wraps and warming drinks ahead of the highlight of the night.

People at The Grand and The Bold then enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display above Lord Street, with a stunning pyrotechnic display lighting up the night sky and launching the festive season in style.

Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group Chairman Andrew Mikhail said: “It was a magnificent day and night at The Grand and The Bold.

“We saw a huge turnout at both venues, which will only grow year on year.

“We’d like to thank everyone who came and enjoyed the launch of our festive celebrations this year.

“It was a great night for the Northern Quarter as a whole; it was great to see a lot of the oher local bars and restaurants, our neighbours, enjoying the extra inflow of customers to the area, which we all desperately need.

“Our big Christmas lights switch on gets bigger and better every year.

“The Grand and The Bold have become the places for people to go to celebrate Christmas in Southport.

“We have over 3,000 people booked in already for Christmas meals, festive afternoon teas, Christmas party nights and more, and we are looking forward to welcoming everybody.

“We always love to go big at Christmas, and this year will be the best it’s ever been!

“We really wanted to light the touchpaper for our Christmas celebrations at our venues in Southport with a bang.”
