A woman who is a wonderful campaigner for Ukrainian culture and freedom has won the Diversity and Inclusion Award sponsored by Sefton Council at the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards.
Nina Karetska is an integral part of the Ukrainian community currently living in Sefton, and often organises well-attended events that bring them together while also sharing Ukrainian art, food, dance, songs and culture with people locally.
She was presented with her award by Sefton Council Leader Cllr Marion Atkinson.

Nina is an incredible photographer, currently studying photography in Liverpool.
She has staged two excellent exhibitions and a number of events at The Atkinson in Southport as well as at Wayfarers Arcade in Southport.
Her recent exhibition at The Atkinson, Ukraine Through the Eyes of the First Days, was quite stunning and moving.
Using a photographic technique called the Cyanotype technique—one of the earliest photographic printing processes, she produced a body of incredibly strong images that somehow are also timeless and fragile.

The Pride Of Sefton Awards sponsored by The Grand Southport and organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport, is an unmissable fixture in the Liverpool City Region events calendar, in association with In Demand Radio.
Nina was key in organising a special Ukraine Day at the Atkinson on Saturday 22nd February 2025 to mark the third year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
One of the people who nominated Nina said: “She works tirelessly to promote the history and culture of her home country and to keep people aware of what is still taking place in Ukraine.

“Her work is incredible, poignant, moving and unique. We are very lucky to have her in Sefton.
“I believe that Nina is very deserving to receive a Pride of Sefton Award to recognise not just her artwork but the dedication and effort that she puts into keeping the legacy of Ukraine alive.”
Next year’s awards will take place at The Grand on Lord Street in Southport on Friday 24th April 2026.
