An award-winning Southport pub has reopened following a six-figure investment.
The Old Duke on Scarisbrick New Road closed on 13th October 2025 with its transformation representing a significant investment of £335,000.
The venue was crowned the Best Pub for Dogs at the Great British Pub Awards 2025, with the pub priding itself on welcoming “beloved pets” and describing itself as “warm” and “relaxed”.

The Marston’s pub reopened on November 5 and now offers a sports bar area and a separate family lounge, creating two distinct spaces: a lively bar for the locals and a family-friendly lounge.
The community heroes chosen to pull the first pint to mark the Old Duke’s opening were Bebe’s Hive UK, a Community Interest Company established to support grieving children following the Southport tragedy.
The group were chosen after receiving over 3,000 votes in the pub’s Facebook group. To honour Bebe, one of the girls lost in the tragedy, the pub held an auction of old renovation bric-a-brac, raising £650 for the group, with additional fundraisers planned.

General Manager, Heather Porter-Brandwood, said, “We’re so excited to be back open and show off the fantastic new look. We’ve worked hard to make The Old Duke a space for everyone – whether you’re catching the game with friends, enjoying a family lunch, or just popping in for a pint.

“The new Sky Sports package, refreshed interiors, and outdoor seating make it a perfect spot year-round.”
