A Southport woman who faced one of the most challenging periods of her life has transformed her health – and is now relaunching a local Slimming World group to support others across Southport.
Adelle, who will be running the Thursday morning groups at Liverpool Road Methodist Church in Birkdale in Southport (9.30am & 11am), knows just how much life’s challenges can impact both our physical and emotional wellbeing.
“In November 2023, everything changed,” she explains. “Within two weeks, my husband had a heart attack, my dad had a stroke and my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Overnight, my focus shifted completely onto caring for everyone else.”
Like so many people during times of stress and grief, Adelle found herself struggling with her own wellbeing.
“I pushed my own feelings aside and tried to stay strong for my family. But in reality, I’d stopped looking after myself. I turned to food for comfort and over time, the weight I’d lost crept back on. My blood pressure was through the roof.”

Her turning point came when she thought about her future – and her family.
“On top of everything else, I knew I needed to take care of my health so I could be there for my son. That was the moment I knew something had to change.”
Adelle rejoined Slimming World in January 2025, determined to take back control.
“I told myself I didn’t have to be perfect – I just had to try. And that’s exactly what Slimming World is all about.”
By following Slimming World’s Food Optimising plan and introducing regular exercise, Adelle began to rebuild both her physical and mental strength.
“As the weight came off, everything started to change. I felt stronger, happier, and the fog of grief slowly began to lift. I started to enjoy food again in a completely different way.”

The impact on her health was incredible.
“My GP was delighted. My blood pressure returned to normal levels, and by July 2025 I no longer needed any medication at all. I couldn’t believe it.”
Adelle says the support she received made all the difference.
“The kindness, encouragement and understanding in group meant everything. It wasn’t just about losing weight – it was about finding myself again.”
Now, she’s passionate about bringing that same support to others in Southport.
With around two-thirds of adults in the UK overweight or living with obesity, many people in Southport are looking for a way to improve their health in a supportive, realistic way.

“I truly believe no one should feel like they have to do this alone. Whether someone wants to lose weight, feel healthier or just be part of something positive each week – they’ll be so welcome in my group.”
Adelle’s Slimming World groups relaunch at Liverpool Road Methodist Church, Southport, every Thursday at 9.30am and 11am, offering a warm, friendly and non-judgemental space for anyone ready to start their journey.
