Could beach huts soon be lining up alongside Ainsdale Beach in Southport?

The scheme would be similar to the one already in place just along the Lancashire coast at St Annes.

Ainsdale councillor Lynne Thompson has submitted a feasibility study on the proposal to enhance the Ainsdale Beach gateway to Sefton Council and is hoping the local authority gives its approval.

She has also revealed that a tendering process has begun for the redevelopment of The Sands pub site.

Cllr Thompson said: “New car park facilities are still on track for Autumn 2022.

“Toilets have been costed and a type / model is being looked into, with upgraded options, for mixed ability adult and child use.

“New food and drink concessions are being explored for the 2022 season, building on the success of last year.

“The Sands Hotel tendering process has started. An agent has been appointed. Options are being discussed.

“Regarding The Sands car park, action is still required regarding the poor surface. I have chased this up, again, with Sefton Traffic Services.

“After a brief discussion with Sefton Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure Services I have submitted a short feasibility study on a  beach hut scheme for Ainsdale, which is based on the successful scheme currently used in Lytham St Annes.

“Many thanks to my colleague, Lesley Delves for all her hard work crafting  all the information and research done into an excellent report.”
