A Southport restaurant is putting smiles on families’ faces with everyone’s favourite seaside meal – freshly cooked fish and chips.
Xander’s Fish Bar, on Eastbank Street in Southport town centre, also has a few additional surprises for diners too.
They include battered haggis and battered black pudding, which are enjoying rave reviews.
Huge efforts have gone into creating food items that are Gluten Free, an unusual offering for chippies.
Xander’s Fish Bar was recognised for its excellence when it was shortlisted in the Restaurant Of The Year category in the 2023 Your Southport Stars Awards, which is organised annually by Southport BID.
Owner Danny Ghinea said: “We are delighted to be established at Xander’s with lots of regular customers, and now we want to let even more people know that we were here.
“We were honoured to be a Finalist in the Southport BID Your Southport Stars Awards last year which was a celebration of everything we have achieved.
“We are open every day, seven days a week, here for people who want to come in and sit down for a meal, or to order and take away, while we also do deliveries through Just Eat, Deliveroo and UberEats.
“People can order via our website and our Xander’s app.
“We are getting recognised by more and more people for our Gluten Free dishes.
“We appreciate how difficult and how limiting it can be for people when they can no longer eat their favourite foods.
“All of our Gluten Free food is cooked in a separate fryer.”
Xander’s opened on 16th November 2020 following an extensive transformation of the former Harper’s eatery.
It maintains all the traditions of a fine fish and chip shop.
There is seating inside for 51 people at any one time, while beautiful old nostalgic pictures of Southport adorn the walls.
Danny said: “We are famous for the quality of our fish and chips.
“We cook cod, haddock and plaice, which are all freshly cooked to order. You can’t beat great fish and chips!
“We also have dishes such as fried haggis and fried black pudding. They are very popular with people!
“I had the idea to add them to our menu and thought why not try it and give it a go. It is something a little different for people to try.
“We have quite a variety of dishes on our menu.
“At Xander’s, we are committed to providing our customers with the very best traditional fish and chips.
“We only serve the traditional British chip specifically selected for its taste and texture that we peel and cut ourselves.
“We endeavour to purchase the freshest fish from ethical and sustainable sources without compromising the high standards our loyal regulars come to expect.
“We believe in keeping it simple and staying true to the roots of the chippy; just great fresh food, and friendly service.”
