Author David Walshe, who runs the popular Secret Sand Land website and social media pages, has just written a new book, Ecclesfield - Southport’s Forgotten Suburb’

An acclaimed local author and historian is launching his new book this weekend, revealing the secrets about a forgotten corner of Southport.  

David Walshe, who runs the popular Secret Sand Land website and social media pages, has just written ‘Ecclesfield – Southport’s Forgotten Suburb’.

He has been researching this area for over a decade, after first reading about it in some of Harry Foster’s books. 

David has taken a fresh look at the area and uncovered some fascinating local stories in the process. The book looks at:

Eccles & Ball family history

South Hawes / Early Southport

The exact locations of all the Eccles Farms within Southport

Snuttering Lane

Prominent local residents

Scandal in Birkdale

Many rare images

When and why the name fell out of use

The book launch takes place at The Beer Den, Duke Street, ECCLESFIELD, Southport, this Saturday, 17th June between 2pm and 5pm.

The new book is priced at £12 and all books will be signed. 

David can accept cash, cheque or bank transfer / PayPal on the day however, there will be no card payment facility at the event.

David is a proud Sandgrounder and the founder of Secret Sand Land who has been interested in local history since childhood. 

For the past few years he has been researching the history of Southport, and what existed before, and he aims to present well researched and new material via regular blogs, books, walks, talks & podcasts! Plus daily snippets via my twitter feed and new Facebook page, uncovering previously unknown facts along the way. 

His debut book, ‘Sandy Tracks’, is a unique collection of local history based poems, illustrations and historical notes.

He can complete house histories and also perform talks, of which he currently has three; ‘Marshside & its Fog Bell’, ‘A Brief History of High Park’ and ‘Southport Street Names’.
