The company which led the interior design transformation at The Grand in Southport has been nominated for a top industry award.

APM Design Ltd, based in Darwen in Lancashire, has been shortlisted as a finalist in this year’s Northern Design Awards.

The firm was recognised in the Commercial Interior Design Project of the Year category for its work at The Grand.

The first phase of the stunning transformation of the unique art deco building on Lord Street in Southport town centre opened in July this year, with a brasserie restaurant and Chloe’s piano bar on the ground floor.

The opening night visitors said The Grand “looks amazing” after seeing its new look for the first time – praising owners Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group for “keeping a little bit of history in our town”, with one visitor saying his visit felt “like being on a cruise ship”.

The magnificent Grade II Listed building was opened in 1923 – it celebrates its centenary next year – and has entertained generations of Sandgrounders as a cinema, as a bingo hall, as an early car showroom, and as the former ‘Grand Casino’.

The stylish Princess Grace Suite function and events room has since opened on the first floor, with Harry’s Bar and the Sky Bar on the top floor due to open in Spring next year.

Mikhail Hotel and Leisure has already invested £4million in the ongoing redevelopment.
