There are not very many practising artists in the North West who can boast their work also shares the walls with some of the most celebrated painters of the 20th century.

Daniel Adler, who has lived in Southport all his life, can make that claim after his artwork caught the eye of the renowned TV psychic and notable spoon bender, Uri Geller: “Daniel is brilliantly talented – I have an original piece of his artwork in my museum in Tel Aviv alongside Picasso and Warhol.”

No stranger to courting attention, Daniel, a graduate of Southport College of Art, also found favour with EastEnders’ actress, Patsy Palmer: “Daniel is very talented. I watched him draw a picture of The Manor Hotel in London whilst I was staying there. I love the hotel so I purchased it as a gift to the owner.”

Admitting to being “blown away” by such celebrity recognition, Daniel, who was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome when he was 15, confesses he uses art as a form of relaxation therapy: “It helps me through the day.”

He explains: “It’s been a real blessing, the autistic condition. I feel it’s more of a gift rather than a handicap. It enables me to concentrate on detail and it keeps me focused. Because some of my spirograph designs have a repeated pattern and uniform style I can put in attention to detail in what I create because I see things in patterns.”

Proof that no disability can stop a person from doing amazing things and succeeding at the highest levels, Daniel is keen to raise awareness and dispel misconceptions, and has delivered talks on the subject, including to schoolchildren.

In 2015 Daniel became the resident artist at the award winning community project  ‘Art with a Heart’ in Altrincham and is often approached with commissions including a recent request from a synagogue in South Manchester to commemorate the 150th anniversary of its Jewish community that is now on public display: “I am lucky enough to have my own studio space and have participated in a number of arts projects including ‘plein air’ painting of a football match at Altrincham Football Club as part of a diversity and inclusion event”.

Although he has been passionate about art from an early age, it was the boost from his celebrity recognition that ultimately gave Daniel the self-assurance in 2023 to leave the job he had done for the past 36 years at his family’s flooring business to concentrate on being a full-time artist: “It’s helped my self esteem and confidence. My work is finally getting recognised amongst other big celebrities, top names, top brands.”

During his career to date, Daniel’s amazing talent has not only featured in solo exhibitions around the region but has resulted in his work being shortlisted for the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.

Lately, Daniel has gravitated towards intricate pen and ink drawings and his complex patterned spirograph technique, reminiscent of M.C. Escher’s mathematically inspired optical symmetry, has proven to be a very popular addition to his ever-increasing portfolio.

Equally meticulously generated, the detailing of the interior of Daniel’s imaginary cathedral – ‘Guardalieghdoe’ – achieves the same pinpoint accuracy using oils.

Also on show will be a varied selection of Daniel’s recent line drawings capturing the architectural grandeur along Liverpool’s iconic waterfront and the stylish tree-lined boulevard of Southport’s Lord Street.

This 3rd solo showing at the ArtHouse by Daniel Adler, scheduled as part of this year’s Southport Heritage Open Days, is certainly not one to be missed.  Catch it while you can from the 9th – 27th September 2025 at the ArtHouse, Eastbank Street, Southport. The gallery is open Tuesday – Friday 10.00-15.00.  Saturday 11.00-16.00.  There will also be several opportunities to meet Daniel (16th , 17th & 18th September) at the gallery where he will be working on his drawings.
