People are invited to come together for ‘A Service to Remember Loved Ones’ in Southport.
This special event will take place at the Cornerstone Methodist Church on Marshside Road, Southport, PR9 9TL from 10.30am on Sunday 2nd November 2025.
A car park is available via the Radnor Road entrance to the church.
The service is organised by Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
As well as giving time to remember, the aim of the service is to be gentle and supportive
for anyone journeying with grief.
During the gathering there will be an opportunity to remember loved ones in different ways, including lighting a candle and placing a heart on the tree of remembrance.
Rev Martin Abrams MBE and Rev Jan Fraser from the Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Service team will be leading the service.
There will also be input from Shirley Potts, the Assistant Hospital Chaplain and Formerly of Child Bereavement UK.
The Spiritual Care Service at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals have been arranging such an event since 2012, and for the last few years Cornerstone Methodist Church has been so kind as to extend an invitation to hold it as part of their morning service.
Rev Martin Abrams MBE said:
“In the 14 years we have been holding this service we have welcomed people who have been recently bereaved, and others who suffered a loss a long time ago.
“We always get positive feedback from people who tell us it has helped them in their journey of grief.
“Grief is an experience that is bigger than any religion or philosophy of life, and although every experience of grief is unique people often find strength from coming together and sharing a common humanity. Anyone who would find it helpful is welcome.
“We do realise this will not be for everyone, or that grief may still be too raw for such an occasion.
“The service will be very gentle and reflective in nature. The feedback we have had in past years is that people who would describe themselves as religious, or not religious at all, have found the time very helpful.”
