A jewellery workshop has become the new jewel of Churchtown after opening in the picturesque village.

Simon Ford Jewellery Workshop is a new independent, dual family-run business at 144a Cambridge Road, in a parade near Churchtown Lights. Simon and Anthony are the two onsite goldsmiths, and have racked up over 45 years of experience in repairing jewellery and creating bespoke pieces.

Simon said: “We’ve set up shop in the village of Churchtown, Southport to provide a jewellery repair service for local residents and those who love to visit or are passing through.

“It has always been our ambition to open a jewellery shop with an onsite workshop here. We’re friends who have worked together for a long time, and our families all live locally too. We love being a village jewellers.

“Churchtown is such a beautiful village; it’s absolutely thriving and growing with new independent businesses all the time. Our location on Cambridge Road is great and a bonus is having free parking right outside the shop – customers love the convenience and not having to make the journey into town.

“Our customers love knowing that their jewellery doesn’t get posted away somewhere else; all work is carried out onsite by our own hands. It means we can complete the work quicker too, sometimes even on the same day.

“With the beautiful Botanic Gardens park, the shops, the bars, the restaurants, the coffee shops, and Meols Hall, you could easily spend the day here now.

“We have been welcomed by everyone and have such great neighbours. There’s a real warmth about the community.

At Simon Ford Jewellery Workshop, the repair services range from ring resizing, cleaning, polishing and rhodium plating (‘dipping’), to chain and clasp repairs, stone replacement and personalised engraving. So far, the most popular service they offer has been re-modelling. Customers have been getting in touch about their unworn jewellery and have been having it made into something they can wear and love.

“We had a customer who came in recently with some gold and some jewellery that had been in their family for 40 years, and they weren’t quite sure what to do with it. We worked with them to design something new and very special, that holds the sentimental feeling of where, or whom, the piece originally came from. It’s a great way to bring jewellery back to life, especially when it helps people remember someone special.

They also offer valuations for insurance and cash for gold, with customers being pleasantly surprised at how much their items are worth!

Simon and Anthony are passionate about custom-designed jewellery; there’s nothing quite like bespoke handmade pieces to capture the sentiment and thoughtfulness of special occasions. Whether it’s for an engagement, anniversary, or just a spur-of-the-moment gesture, these custom creations are guaranteed to hold a special significance.

Anthony said: “We’ve made all kinds; rings are the most popular request but pendants, earrings and bangles have also been created here recently.

They can hand make custom designed items, such as engagement rings.

“Customers have had ideas of the perfect engagement ring for them but haven’t been able to find their vision on the high street. We have been able to work with them to create exactly what they have in mind.

“When buying an engagement ring, you want it to be great quality; you want it to be special; and you want it to last.

“We are not salespeople. We are goldsmiths. We want our customers to understand exactly what they’re getting when they choose a piece from us; either from our window or something custom made. We enjoy teaching people about the pieces we sell and hand make; there’s always something interesting to learn.

Customers can enjoy watch repairs too. They can replace watch batteries while you wait and the shop stocks a range of watch straps. Watch servicing, and other repairs are also available.

“If people have any questions, are curious about the cost to remodel or repair, or need any advice, we are here for them. We host a relaxed, friendly and approachable workshop, where people can feel confident to ask any questions; big or small, and no quote is obligatory. There’s no pressure here.

“We sell jewellery too. We have a collection of 9 carat, 18 carat and platinum jewellery pieces on sale. You’ll see plenty of pieces in our display that have been handmade by us onsite here at the workshop too. We also have a vast collection of sterling silver pieces starting from £20, so our shop really does suit a range of budgets.

“Please feel welcome to swing by with any jewellery that needs our attention and we can provide you with expert advice on the best course of action, or pop in to take a look at the pieces we have for sale.
