A student who has just enjoyed exceptional success at KGV Sixth Form College in Southport has paid tribute to her teachers and revealed how she made the best decision when she enrolled at the college.
Olivia Hersey, aged 18, is now looking forward to taking up her place studying English Literature at Oxford University.
In August she was beaming with delight when she collected her results, to discover that she had earned an impressive 3 A* grades in her A-Levels in English Literature, History and Classical Civilisation.
Olivia was among young people at KGV who enjoyed a wonderful celebration at the College, on Scarisbrick New Road in Southport, on Tuesday, 10th August.
An incredible 99% of the KGV Sixth Form College class of 2021 were accepted at their first choice university, and Olivia is now encouraging other young people to enrol and enjoy similar excellent support and facilities.
She said: “I can’t wait to start at Oxford University! We came back from there a couple of days ago for a visit, and it is so beautiful.
“KGV Sixth Form College is just lovely. I have really enjoyed my time there. It was a shame that my time in the college was cut short by the Covid lockdowns.
“I had lots of great teachers there, they were all amazing.
“In spite of the lockdowns, I still felt as though we were all like one big family there.
“When the Covid pandemic happened, I really think KGV were great with how they handled it and very quickly adapted to online learning. You hear about how some schools were awful with communication during the pandemic, but that definitely wasn’t the case with KGV. It was almost like being in the classroom, but without physical attendance there.
“Everyone still managed to get the most of the teaching offered, there was lots of support.
“Everyone at KGV has been so lovely.
“During the times we were at college, the library was a superb place to be. It was a really good environment to study in.
“KGV was also a great place to meet other people and to meet new friends.
“I am really glad that I chose KGV as a place to study out of all the options I had to choose from two years ago.
“For anyone thinking about what to do next, KGV Sixth Form College should definitely be considered as a next step.
“It really is just a great place for developing your passions and your interests.”
Results day at KGV is something that Olivia will remember for a long time – not just for her brilliant results, but also for those of her friends and fellow students. College Principal Michelle Brabner and Southport MP Damien Moore were on hand to congratulate everyone.
Olivia, who enrolled at KGV after leaving Stanley High School in Southport, said: “Results Day was great. It was quite a blur!
“There were so many people coming up and talking, everyone was congratulating each other.
“It was lovely to see so many other people find out that they had done as well as they had wanted, and were going to their first choice university.”
For Olivia, that means taking up her place at Oxford University, one of the most iconic educational settings in the world.
She said: “I can’t wait to be taught by all the tutors and to really dedicate myself to English. It is going to be lovely to have the support of people who are such experts in their field. I can’t wait to start.”
Olivia currently has no long term plans for life after university, and will see what opportunities arise as she studies.
She said: “So far I am just making the most of being able to do what I enjoy right now. I will make the most of any opportunities as I get them.”
