Who would you like to see crowned as the 2026 Sefton School Of The Year?
The search has begun to celebrate this year’s outstanding schools, with three finalists invited – and a winner crowned – at the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards at The Grand in Southport.
This category is being sponsored by Southport Education Group, which operates Southport College and KGV Sixth Form College in Southport.
The award isn’t just about academic performance, but about the role our schools play in the local community, supporting the borough’s young people and families.

Organisers are looking forward to recognising the hard work and dedication of Sefton’s educators at this prestigious event.
Southport Education Group Principal, Michelle Brabner said:
“At Southport Education Group, we know that a strong and positive educational experience leaves a lasting impression on young people and helps shape who they become. That’s why we are honoured to sponsor the School of the Year Award for the fourth year in a row.
“We are proud to celebrate the commitment and passion of our local schools as they continue to inspire and support children and families across our community.”

Last year’s Sefton School of The Year was Churchtown Primary School in Southport.
Churchtown Primary School has faced unimaginable tragedy following the horrific events of summer 2024. The impact of these events has been profound at Churchtown because of the significant number of children and adults impacted.
Two days after the attack during the summer holidays, the school opened its doors to all, providing a place for children, colleagues and families to come together to share in their grief and find connection.
The school campaigned alongside families to raise a quarter of a million pounds to create a stunning new playground and a new library at the school in memory of girls who died in the Southport tragedy, which were opened in September.

A Finalist in the awards was Kew Woods Primary School in Southport.
Kew Woods Primary pioneered the message of #kNOwKnifeCrime and inspired 81 schools and 35,000 pupils to participate in a mini marathon event across Sefton to fundraise for bleed control kits and cabinets.
The campaign ensured pupils aged 8-16 had a knowledge of the dangers of knife crime and they developed life saving skills to use in the community.
Together schools and campaigners raised over £30,000, which has enabled every school taking part to have a bleed control Kit and cabinet outside their school.
Also a Finalist was Maghull High School.
Maghull High School has taken part in many community projects and fundraising events to give back to our community.
As part of the creation of the Maghull High Way, students are taught to respect their community, both in and out of school.
Students led a ‘reverse advent calendar’ which saw them bringing in donations of food each day to give to South Sefton Foodbank before Christmas.
People and groups who go above and beyond to make Sefton a special place for all will be presented with their trophies and given thanks in the Princess Grace Suite at The Grand on Lord Street in Southport town centre on Friday, 24th April 2026.
The unmissable night in the Liverpool city region events calendar will be presented by actress and radio personality Claire Simmo.
All those on the shortlist will be invited to a special celebratory meal in beautiful surroundings while the awards are presented, with a night of entertainment planned.
The Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards are organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport and supported by Media Partner In Demand Radio.
Nominations are still being invited across all 13 categories ahead of the closing date on 1st March 2026.
Organisers are looking for nominations, across Southport, Formby, Crosby, Bootle, Maghull and elsewhere in the borough of Sefton.
