A 24-hour charity swim challenge is being held at Marshside Health Club in Southport over 17th–18th January 2026 in aid of Alder Hey Children’s Charity inspired by Harrison Dale

A 24-hour charity swim challenge is taking place this weekend for a teenage Southport boy who is in remission from blood cancer.

People are invited to support the ambitious challenge, which began at Marshside Health Club in Marshside in Southport at 1pm on Saturday (17th January 2026) and is due to finish at 1pm today (Sunday 18th January 2026).

Funds raised will go towards Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

The swim has been inspired by Harrison Dale, a 15-year-old pupil at Stanley High School in Southport.

In March 2025, Harrison, who learnt to swim at Swims’cool, trains at Marshside Health Club and competes for Southport Swimming Club, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

“Marshside Health Club’s 24-Hour Sponsored Swim is already underway, raising funds for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Oncology Ward.

“Last March, one of our own, Harrison, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

“After months of intensive treatment at Alder Hey, he’s now in remission — back at school, back in the gym, and back in the pool. This swim is our community saying thank you… and helping every child still fighting.
