Tributes were paid to two much-admired lawyers at the 2025 Southport & Ormskirk Law Society Annual Dinner.
Law Society President Gerard Horton led guests in their mourning of Mike Ratcliffe and Geoff Cottrell, two figures who have contributed so much to the legal profession through their long and distinguished careers, as well as through their dedication to the local community.
During his speech, Gerard Horton said: “I’d like to begin on a note of respect.
“Since our last annual dinner we have sadly lost a couple of immensely important figures in our Society and our community.
“Mike Ratcliffe, was not only a former Managing Partner at Brighouses Solicitors, but also a tireless contributor to our local legal community, and beyond.
“His dedication extended beyond the courtroom to 32 years as a Director of Southport Flower Show, and to countless hours supporting this society.
“Geoff Cottrell, a respected solicitor at Cockshott, Peck & Lewis, a past President of this society, demonstrated leadership, commitment and a deep connection to his profession.
“Their passing leaves a huge void and we remember them with gratitude and admiration.”
The 2025 Southport & Ormskirk Law Society Annual Dinner sponsored by Datalaw was held at Hillside Golf Club in Southport.
The society has been operating for 103 years and continues to go from strength to strength.
