Ormskirk Hospital is lit up pink and blue to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (MWL) has marked Baby Loss Awareness Week (9th–15th October 2025) with a series of heartfelt events that brought comfort, reflection, and solidarity to families and staff affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

As part of the commemorations, the front of Ormskirk and Whiston hospitals were illuminated in pink and blue, creating a powerful visual tribute that resonated deeply with the local community. The lighting display, which is running throughout the week, serves as a beacon of remembrance and support, honouring babies lost and the families who carry their memory.

The initiative was warmly received, with many members of the public sharing their appreciation and personal reflections across social media. Posts expressing gratitude, remembrance, and solidarity flooded platforms, highlighting how meaningful the gesture was to those who have experienced loss—both recently and in years past.

Joanne Unsworth, Bereavement Midwife at Ormskirk and Whiston hospitals, said:

“The lighting of our hospitals in pink and blue was a beautiful and moving tribute. It’s heartening to see how many people have engaged with this week, whether by attending services or simply pausing to reflect. The response from the community has been overwhelming and deeply touching.”

In addition to the lighting, MWL hosted two remembrance services:

  • A Wave of Light and Candle Lighting Ceremony at West Lancashire Crematorium, Ormskirk Hospital
  • A Baby Loss Remembrance Service at Whiston Hospital’s Sanctuary

Both events provided safe and supportive spaces for families to come together, share their stories, and honour the memories of their babies.

MWL remains committed to supporting families affected by baby loss and raising awareness of the support available. For more information, please visit www.babyloss-awareness.org.
