Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson has pledged to continue engaging with the owners of the former Pontins holiday park in Ainsdale in Southport to ensure that any plans for the land “match the ambitions of both Sefton Council and Ainsdale residents”.
The MP shared his thoughts as the council released an update on its vision for the Ainsdale Coastal Gateway.
It includes a new visitor centre, a new hospitality venture at The Sands Pub site, and the demolition of Toad Hall.
The Pontins site is integral to the delivery of this vision, and Sefton Council says it is engaged in ongoing discussions with the leaseholder of the site regarding its future.
Bill Esterson MP said: “I’m pleased to see Sefton Council share their vision document for the Ainsdale Beach Gateway this morning.
“I particularly welcome the progress on the sale and regeneration of The Sands, as well as the final decision to demolish the Toad Hall building which is now beyond repair.

“Improved and expanded parking facilities will make the beach more accessible and provide relief to local residents at peak times.
“In my survey earlier this year, residents were clear about their priorities for the site. They want to see a high-quality offering for local people as well as visitors — enhancing the leisure offer and ecology of the area while boosting our already thriving high street.
“The long-term, nature-led regeneration of the gateway, with the potential for a visitor centre, reflects the hopes of residents for facilities that enhance the natural beauty of the area and improve access for the community and visitors.
“Key to further progress will be the redevelopment of the Pontins site, and I will continue to engage with Britannia to ensure their plans for the site match the ambitions of both the Council and Ainsdale residents.”
