Get ready for a BIG weekend coming up in Southport!

There are a huge number of exciting events taking place that you won’t want to miss including the new Coastal Jam music festival, the Southport Sprint Revival, the Southport Heritage Open Days, the 24 Yacht Race and more!

Here’s your guide to what’s on this Saturday and Sunday:

1 – Coastal Jam

A two-day festival of music and family fun is set to take over Southport town centre on Saturday 13th September and Sunday 14th September 2025.

The first Coastal Jam festival promises two fun-filled days of live music and family activities, with stages at the Town Hall Gardens, Market Street, and a host of performances at bars and venues across the town centre.

On Saturday 13th September Market Street will be transformed into a street party with an outdoor stage and festivities.

Kyle Shaw, Lucy Starr, Coopers Jazz Band and Clockwork Gibbons are set to perform, alongside a record fair, stalls, street performers, and activities at Southport Market.

Roaming brass band Sticky Lips will bring the party, taking their unique brand of high energy bouncing brass for a spin around the town centre on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday 14th September, attention will be focused on the Town Hall Gardens, with a spectacular stage show taking place between 11am and 6pm.

CBBC stars Andy and The Odd Socks will kick off proceedings with a high-energy performance, before Mosh Tots entertain tiny rebels and mini moshers!

A line-up of talented bands and performers will then take to the stage throughout the afternoon, including bombastic 6-piece collective Kiki Music Collective, 80’s specialists Hello Felix, and local rockers Frank Flight Band.

There will be much more than music in the Town Hall Gardens, with food and drink from local traders and activity stalls for everyone to explore.

You might feel the need for speed when the thrilling Cataclean Southport Sprint Revival returns.

The only event of its kind in the north of England will take place with cars from across the eras racing in time trials along Marine Drive, next to Southport Beach, on Saturday 13th September 2025.

4 – 24 Hour Yacht Race

Southport’s very own 24 Hour Race is back on Saturday 13th September and Sunday 14th September 2025.

It was named ‘Event of the Year’ at the prestigious Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Show earlier this year, bringing national recognition to this spectacular endurance challenge on the Marine Lake.

This award is an incredible achievement for only the first year back after a break during the pandemic. The 2024 race marked the revival of this much-loved event, and despite the short lead time, 50 teams and over 600 competitors took to the water.

The recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and passion of the West Lancashire Yacht Club (WLYC) team, the volunteers from sailing clubs across the UK, and the enthusiastic local community who helped bring the race back bigger and better than ever.

The event isn’t just for sailors – it’s a real spectacle for Southport residents, offering an exciting, free sporting event right in the heart of the town.

8 – Bedroom Farce

Southport Dramatic Club

12th September – 20th September 2025

Little Theatre, Hoghton Street, Southport

Four couples, three bedrooms, one night (and the next morning).

This pacy and well observed play by the acclaimed Ayckbourn stands the test of time.  Malcolm and Kate are hosting a housewarming party and have invited several friends including Jan & Nick and Susannah & Trevor; this is somewhat complicated by the romantic history of Jan and Trevor – something his parents Delia and Ernest reflect on whilst preparing to go out for their anniversary dinner.

During the course of the evening, nothing quite goes to plan, bringing insecurities and emotions and emotions to the surface with moving and amusing consequences.

9 – Dan In Action

Dan In Action, a Solo Show by Daniel Adler

ArtHouse, 65 Eastbank Street, Southport

9th -27th September 2025

There are not very many practising artists in the North West who can boast their work also shares the walls with some of the most celebrated painters of the 20th century.

Daniel Adler, who has lived in Southport all his life, can make that claim after his artwork caught the eye of the renowned TV psychic and notable spoon bender, Uri Geller: “Daniel is brilliantly talented – I have an original piece of his artwork in my museum in Tel Aviv alongside Picasso and Warhol.”

No stranger to courting attention, Daniel, a graduate of Southport College of Art, also found favour with EastEnders’ actress, Patsy Palmer: “Daniel is very talented. I watched him draw a picture of The Manor Hotel in London whilst I was staying there. I love the hotel so I purchased it as a gift to the owner.”

Admitting to being “blown away” by such celebrity recognition, Daniel, who was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome when he was 15, confesses he uses art as a form of relaxation therapy: “It helps me through the day.”

He explains: “It’s been a real blessing, the autistic condition. I feel it’s more of a gift rather than a handicap. It enables me to concentrate on detail and it keeps me focused. Because some of my spirograph designs have a repeated pattern and uniform style I can put in attention to detail in what I create because I see things in patterns.”

10 –  The Magic Of Middle-earth

The Atkinson, Southport

Saturday 21 June 2025 – Saturday 27 September 2025. Free

“In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit…”

With those famous words J.R.R. Tolkien welcomed visitors into Middle-earth, a seemingly living breathing world both mythical and yet familiar. Regarded as the “father” of modern fantasy literature, Tolkien’s cultural influence has extended far beyond just other authors. Middle-earth has inspired creative minds of all types and acted as a Minecraft-like toolbox for generations of artists, musicians, film makers, environmentalists, and game designers.

The Magic Of Middle-earth takes visitors on a journey beyond the books to explore that expansive artistic legacy. Discover stunning paintings, incredible sculptures, even Middle-earth themed Lego sets. With family fun and kids activities this is an exciting exhibition for all ages. Whether you’re a little halfling or a wizened wizard you won’t want to miss this one!

The exhibition is curated by Matt Fox and is drawn from his personal collection of Tolkien memorabilia.
