An outstanding nurse has been named as Employee of the Year at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Debbie Warburton, Ward Manager at Whiston Hospital, was praised for her efforts to provide the highest standards of care for her patients whilst always being a positive role-model to staff.

She received her award from former Coronation Street actress and Strictly Come Dancing winner Ellie Leach.

Hailed for her unwavering commitment to creating a kind, open and inclusive culture within her team, Debbie was described as always leading by example and has been praised for making great improvements to quality and the overall experience of patients and staff on her ward.

Debbie said: “I was genuinely shocked to hear my name announced, but I am incredibly proud.

“I have worked at the Trust for over 16 years and I am really grateful that I’ve had such amazing support and opportunities throughout my journey as a nurse.

“I work with some amazing colleagues, they motivate and inspire me every day. I really try and give 100% to make sure the patients and the staff are really well looked after, so this is a lovely recognition to receive this award.”
