A new campaign is being launched to give a fresh new look to the beautiful Kings Gardens in Southport, with volunteers sought.

People are invited to come down to tidy up the park any time between 10am and 6pm this Friday (27th June 2025) to spare any time they can to improve the area.

The appeal for volunteers has been made by the Friends Of Kings Gardens who would love people to come and join them, for as long or as little as they like.

Green-fingered helpers will be teaming up with Green Sefton and people from local businesses  to see what improvements they can make ahead of the North West Armed Forces Festival taking place this weekend.

This Sunday (29th June 2025) will see the annual Armed Forces Parade of veterans and cadets making its way from Southport town centre to Kings Gardens, where families can enjoy a range of military vehicles, fairground rides, a paintball range, stalls, and other attractions.

Local businesses joining in the clean-up include Masters Crazy Golf; Enviro Cool; Silcock’s Funland and Carousel; and others.

Charles Law from Masters Crazy Golf said: “Kings Gardens is such a beautiful part of Southport with lots of fabulous family attractions here.

“It’s very busy throughout the year, and especially during the summer!

“It’s enjoyed by so many families and so many children and with the Armed Forces Festival coming up, we want to spend this Friday all rolling our sleeves up and making the area look the best it can be.

“We’ll be helping with weeding, removing brambles, giving the area a tidy up, to make it look smarter and cleaner, but also safer for families to come and enjoy.

“If anyone has any time to spare this Friday – however much time you have to spare – we’d love to see you!”

Serena Silcock-Prince, the Operations Manager at Silcock Leisure Group and the President of the Southport Royal British Legion, said: “We’d like to thank West Coast Workwear for donating some t-shirts to some of the Friends Of Kings Gardens volunteers this Friday!

“We’re looking forward to seeing what a positive difference we can make to the gardens this Friday and if anyone is free any time between 10am and 6pm this Friday, you’re welcome to come and join us and lend a hand.

“We’re keen to help the Friends Of Kings Gardens with a big clean up on Friday, ahead of the Armed Forces Festival this weekend which will be busy with lots of families and lots of veterans.

“The Friends group have had a great response from people messaging them with offers to come down and help out.

“They’d love to carry out these clean up events on a regular basis.

“Green Sefton will be involved too, helping out and removing any rubbish collected.”
