Volunteers’ Week, taking place from 2nd to 8th June 2025, is a national celebration dedicated to recognising the incredible contribution of volunteers across the UK.
It is a time to say thank you to the many individuals who give their time, energy, and passion to support others and improve our communities.
From Scout leaders and litter pickers to those helping in community cafés and supporting local projects, volunteers play a vital role in making our borough a better place to live and work.
This year, we are proud to celebrate Volunteers’ Week by recognising the achievements of over 150 local volunteers at a special Volunteer Celebration Event on 4th June 2025 at Bootle Town Hall. The event will be attended by the Mayor of Sefton, local councillors, and Angela White, Chief Executive of Sefton CVS.
The event will highlight the valuable work of volunteers from a wide range of organisations, including Galloway’s Society for the Blind, Southport and Formby Macmillan Centre and Friends of High Park Green Spaces amongst others.

The Volunteers Centre Sefton will also be presenting a Special Recognition Award to Lord Street in Bloom, in honour of their compassionate care and dedication in tending to the floral tributes left by mourners at The Atkinson following last year’s Southport tragedy.
In addition, the event will feature the announcement of two important awards:
· Volunteer of the Year
· Young Volunteer of the Year
These awards recognise outstanding individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their communities through volunteering.
Give volunteering a go this Volunteers’ Week
On 5th June 2025, in partnership with the Friends of Rotten Row, we will be hosting a Volunteer Taster Session. This is an opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering – including those who have never volunteered before – to get involved in a hands-on session helping with gardening activities such as weeding and clearing.
Places are limited, so we encourage early registration.

This Volunteers’ Week, let us come together to say thank you to the volunteers who give so much, often quietly and behind the scenes. Their time, dedication, and kindness help to strengthen our communities and inspire others to do the same.
Thank you to all volunteers – you are the heart of Sefton.
