Today marks an incredible milestone for Dowhigh — 50 years in business!
From humble beginnings in 1975, this established Sefton-based firm has grown into one of the North West’s largest independently owned civil engineering companies.
Dowhigh is a distinguished family-run civil engineering company, established in 1975, based on Park Lane West in Bootle.
With nearly five decades of expertise in road and highway construction and maintenance, it has built a robust reputation for delivering high-quality services in the civil engineering sector throughout the North West of England.

The firm has also invested heavily in supporting the local community.
After rioters damaged homes, businesses and Southport Mosque just 24 hours after three young girls were killed in the Southport tragedy last summer, a team from Dowhigh were on the streets from 2 o’clock in the morning clearing up the damage.
When King Charles III subsequently visited Southport to pay his respects after the tragedy, he held a reception to meet members of the local community who have helped the town come together, including Dowhigh directors Trevor Murray and Brian Morrey and Surfacing Manager Steve Petch.

Last Friday Dowhigh representatives were at the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards, sponsoring the Sefton Courage Award with Director Trevor Murray presenting the accolade to Heidi Liddle and Leanne Lucas.
This year they have been supporting the Lord Street In Bloom volunteers in making improvements at the Town Hall Gardens in Southport town centre.
The firm is once again supporting the Bootle Stands Up! comedy showcase as part of the Salt and Tar Fringe Festival in May.

Founded by the Murray family, Dowhigh Ltd has grown from humble beginnings into a medium-sized enterprise with over 50 employees.
The firm prides itself on its ability to balance traditional values with innovative solutions, ensuring longevity and reliability in all projects.
Dowhigh has a diverse client base, including local authorities and private businesses, working in sectors such as transport, education, retail, and pharmaceuticals.

A Dowhigh spokesperson said: “Founded by Dominick Murray, Dowhigh started as a small family venture built on hard work, integrity, and a commitment to delivering quality projects. Five decades later, the business is still proudly family-owned, now led by Dominick’s sons, Michael and Trevor Murray.
“Throughout the years, we have stayed true to our family values while steadily expanding our capabilities. Competing successfully with large corporate firms, Dowhigh continues to deliver civil engineering excellence across the region, with a reputation built on trust, quality, and strong community ties.

“We are proud of the relationships we have built with local councils and authorities across the North West including Sefton, Liverpool and Manchester and beyond including Lancashire, Wigan and the wider North West. These relationships are a testament to our reliability, expertise, and the high standards we bring to every project.
“Today, with a growing order book and an ever-evolving, dedicated team, we look forward to the future with excitement and ambition.

“Our mission remains clear — to continue serving our communities, investing in our people, and building a legacy that will last for generations to come.
“Thank you to every employee, client, partner, and supporter who has been part of the Dowhigh journey. Here’s to the next 50 years of success and growth!”
