Southport Hesketh Round Table has thanked members of the public for their huge generosity in helping them raise over £180,000 for the families and survivors devastated by the Southport tragedy last summer.

As a local charity based in the town, volunteers in the Round Table usually raise funds through operating the annual Southport Santa Float – with their famous ‘dancing Santa’ – while running or supporting events over the years such as the Southport Mad Dog 10k, the Southport Fireworks, Children in Need Day and others.

After the tragedy last July in which three young girls were killed and several children and adults were wounded, they began fundraising tirelessly, raising a huge sum in the process.

While the court case into the tragedy has now ended, the needs of the families and the survivors remain, with the importance of fundraising as important as ever.

Marc Foreman from Southport Hesketh Round Table said:

“A Heartfelt Thank You.

“We are absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of everyone who has supported, donated, and shared our GoFundMe page

“Thanks to the incredible response following our TV and media appearances last month, you’ve helped nearly double the funds raised for the families.

“We want to reassure everyone that 100% of the money raised has been, and will continue to be, directly transferred to the families.

“As the only official charity supporting all 24 families who were inside the room that day, our sole focus is to help them rebuild their lives.

“I can reassure you all that this message isn’t about competing with any other fundraising efforts – it’s about making sure every family affected gets the support they need.

“The donations have been life-changing, helping with lost income, additional therapy, and, most importantly, giving families the chance to create new memories.

“We’ve never asked how or where the money has been spent, but we have received many responses back… and the most common response is simple but powerful: ‘It’s helping us piece our lives back together.’

“Support has come from all over the world, and we wish we could thank every single person individually.

“Today, we want to highlight the amazing effort of the 5th Ormskirk (St Anne’s) Brownies and Guides. These incredible young girls raised over £300 by hosting a Christmas fayre. When their leader, Jacqueline, asked them who they’d like to support, they chose the families affected by the events in July. Standing with them, girls of a similar age to those impacted, was deeply moving—a moment that will stay with me forever.

“But this isn’t a time for sadness. This is a time for hope, for new beginnings, and for finding light again.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. If you’d like to contribute, you can still donate here:
