H.Edmondson Motor Engineers Limited is opening a new venue in Southport.
The small, busy, family-run business, which has been operating in Hesketh Bank since 1981, will open in the former Paul Nutbrown Volvo Specialist Garage at 79 Rufford Road in Crossens.
The firm has applied to Sefton Council for a Certificate of lawfulness to use the 657 square metre site as an MOT testing centre ancillary to use of a garage and salesroom.
Customers will be able to enjoy car sales, repairs and a service station along with MOT testing.
The existing use was granted permission in 1988.
The application, submitted to Sefton Council by Chris Cockwill of Cockwill & Co, said: “The last use as the former Paul Nutbrown Garage has a sign outside detailing the services offered from the premises, these include – Car Sales, Services, Gearbox Repairs, Engine Diagnostics, Air Conditioning Service, Brakes, Tyres, Electronic Systems and MOTs.
“The proposed use mirrors the services listed above under the Current Use, however, the DVSA require evidence that MOT Tests can lawfully be carried out at the premises under planning legislation before they will grant an authorised MOT Centre Certificate and therefore this has necessitated in the Certificate of Lawful Use application.
“It is anticipated that MOTs will represent circa 35-40% of the total volume of work carried out at the premises.”
