Kokomo Coffee & Wine Bar in Southport is a real home from home for customers

Kokomo Coffee & Wine Bar is leading the way for quality independent bars in Southport.

Situated on Bold Street, just off Lord Street, it has built up a loyal following of customers in recent years with new visitors discovering the venue all the time.

Owner Kelly Carr said: “It was a tough summer for bar owners this year, but we are all hoping for a better autumn and winter!

“We have such a loyal following. We love our regulars. It’s like one big family.

“The back of our shirts has the line from Cheers saying ‘where everyone knows your name’ because this is what it’s like in Kokomo.

“It’s a really friendly bar both during the day and evening, whether for a group of friends, or whether someone’s on their own.

“We don’t have any televisions on in the bar. It’s a very friendly place, we love conversation instead!”

The decor has been lovingly created and curated. There are current and historical pictures and maps on almost every inch of the walls.

There are some fascinating old pictures of Southport from years gone by, and a stunning old map from 1845-46 – when Bold Street was just sand dunes!

There are lots of photos of regulars on the walls too enjoying their nights out there. It’s a place that is incredibly welcoming.

Lots of people call into Kokomo Coffee & Wine Bar during the daytime for a quality cup of coffee.

From 5pm every Sunday the bar is packed for its popular weekly karaoke nights.

Happy Hour is a popular time for customers, with San Miguel and Carlsberg Export just £3.50 Monday to Thursday 3pm till 8pm. Double Gordons and tonic is just £5.60 all day every day. Or if wine is your tipple you can sit back with a large glass for just £5.50.

There are lots of tables and chairs inside the bar, with a great outside seating area too.

Kokomo is always keen to work with and support other local businesses. They stock menus from a number of local cafes and restaurants in Southport town centre, allowing customers to order food if they’re hungry!

It’s a great way of local independent businesses working together.

Kokomo Coffee & Wine Bar is also part of Southport Pubwatch, a group operated by Southport BID which ensures safety across all venues.

Landlords in the pubs are all connected so are alerted any time there are ever any issues.

Kelly said: “Lots of bars in Southport town centre belong to PubWatch now.

“We all feel safe and sound here! We want our customers to be able to enjoy themselves without worrying about any idiots. If one person is barred from one venue, they are barred from all.

“We all have our PubWatch stickers displayed on our doors, so people know when they see them they can feel safe and secure on a night out. They are always looking for new members to sign up.
