Full-time Hair and Beauty students at Southport College have had an exciting week, as they took part in the college’s Candyland Hair, Nail and Beauty Competition.
It was undoubtedly one of the brightest and most colourful events the College’s professional on-campus salon ‘Concept’ has seen recently – and one which saw the salon ‘awash’ with creativity and ‘blew’ the judges away!
The students and staff were delighted that they have been able to see the return of Concept Salon’s fabulous annual competition, with this one being one of the most colourful and vibrant yet.
The curriculum team worked hard to pull together such a fantastic event, challenging all students from the Hairdressing, Nail and Beauty courses.
The brief was to give their client a show-stopping makeover, in their chosen discipline, under the theme ‘Candyland’. They were all given just 60 minutes to work on their clients with the chance to win a host of prizes.
Clients ranged from family members, fellow students and even college staff. They were treated to sky-scraping hair-styles, masterful make-ups and prettily polished nails.
It was an absolute joy to see all the incredible creations made by every single student who entered the competition.
As the standards were so high, it made the job of the judge, Samantha Wilcock, the college’s senior internal verifier for hairdressing, extremely difficult.
Sam said: “The creative skills these students have displayed are exceptionally high . I could easily see some of their creations on the front of a magazine.
“What they managed to come up with in just 60 minutes was fantastic. Every single student that took part should be extremely proud of what they’ve achieved.”
The event was a great way of enriching the students’ experience. It gave them real scope to show off their own creativity as well as being a fantastic opportunity to build up their portfolio, which will really help in securing high level employment in the future. Everyone who took part really enjoyed the experience.
