Greenbank High School in Southport has been recognised as the best state secondary school in Merseyside in this year’s Sunday Times Parent Power Schools Guide rankings.

The school, based on Hastings Road in Birkdale, was also awarded an impressive 14th place in the national rankings.

Mrs Katy Robinson, Headteacher of Greenbank High School said: “We are delighted to be announced as the top school in Merseyside and ranked 14th nationally in the recent Sunday Times Parent Power survey.

“We are very proud of our whole community who work so hard to ensure children have the very best curriculum and environment in which to learn.

“Congratulations to all our pupils who worked so hard to achieve exceptional outcomes with high quality teaching and support from their teachers and support staff.”

Mr Ian Raikes CEO of Southport Learning Trust and former Headteacher of Greenbank said: “I would like to thank leadership at all levels including governors for developing and maintaining the structures that support pupils in achieving such high academic and personal outcomes.

“We would also like to thank our parents and carers who work in partnership with us to support their children.”

Greenbank currently has an intake of 1,018 girls aged between 11 and 16 years old.

The Blue Coat School, Liverpool, was second highest rated in Merseyside, with a national ranking of 26th overall.

The other Sefton school in the top 10 for Merseyside was Range High School, in 10th, with a national ranking of 309th.

The Sunday Times Parent Power Schools Guide, now in its 29th edition, identifies more than 1,600 of the highest-achieving state and independent schools, ranked by their most recent moderated, pre-pandemic examination results.

Its fully searchable database allows parents to find the top schools near where you live.

The Sunday Times said: “With the severe disruption to education since March 2020 and the confusion surrounding grades awarded in public examinations, we believe the need for this guide is as great as it has ever been.”
