Cambridge Arcade in Southport has now fully reopened following damage caused by Storm Arwen last weekend.

The Chapel Street entrance of the arcade was taped off after parts of the canopy were damaged by the gale force winds which struck Southport last Friday and Saturday.

It has since fully reopened, with the arcade and Cambridge Walks welcoming shoppers and diners to its many independent shops, cafes and bars.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “We were informed on the evening of Saturday, November 27th that roofing materials from the privately owned former BHS building had been dislodged by Storm Arwen, causing additional damage to the canopy of Cambridge Arcade.

“The local authority’s contractors attended and secured the site to ensure public safety. This required temporarily closing off a small portion of Cambridge Arcade while repair works to the canopy could take place.

“Canopy glass panels which were broken in the incident will be permanently replaced.

“The Arcade has now been fully reopened for the public and we will be speaking to the owners of the former BHS building over the necessary repairs they will need to address.”
