A new self-storage facility and offices could be built on land off Southport Road next door to the Tesco superstore in Kew in Southport.
Storage (Midlands) Ltd has submitted a planning application for the large four-storey building to Sefton Council.
They believe it will bring investment and development into Southport, create jobs and provide business opportunities for local people.
In its application to the council, Senior Architectural Technologist Ashley Glen from C4 Projects said: “The proposed development would make efficient and effective use of the site providing a self-storage facility and office offerings to the surrounding area, providing jobs and business opportunities for smaller businesses such as start-ups etc and also providing redevelopment to the local area.
“The building use class is fitting for its location. Parking for the development is over the required parking standards and planning has been submitted following a positive pre-application.
“The planning application should be supported by the planning officers and should be approved planning permission.”
The 2.3 acre site is on land on the outskirts of Southport.
The proposed development would produce a “modern and functional building” in terms of layout, scale and appearance.
The scheme would also provide car parking for 65 vehicles, pedestrian access paths and cycle storage. Access will be via Southport Road.
There would be three permanent staff at any one time.
Operational hours when the reception is manned would be: 8am-6pm, seven days a week.
24 hour access is limited for the site, and only so clients can access their belongings at any time they require.
The building would be made up of multiple small rooms (storage units) ranging in size from 35sq ft to 350sq ft.
Senior Architectural Technologist Ashley Glen said: “Customers vary and are predominantly home and small business users who require additional space around the home or business.”
