One of the leading hotels in Southport has seen “a huge increase in bookings” ahead of the easing of Covid-19 restrictions next week.

Bliss Hotel, on the Promenade in Southport, has been busy during the last few months of lockdown. Staff have been making improvements to the hotel’s Roof Garden, which overlooks the lake, and creating some delicious new dishes for the menu.

The hotel boasts stunning views across the Marine Lake and the coast.

In the past few months the business has invested to create its new Room function space, unveiled two new penthouses with views out to sea and introduced Betty – a room service robot.

The venue has been partially open to host NHS and key workers and is now excited at the prospect of welcoming back all visitors.

The forthcoming bank holiday weekend at the end of May promises to be a busy one, while ongoing restrictions on foreign travel mean that millions more people are due to enjoy ‘staycation’ holidays in the UK this year.

Bliss Hotel Sales Manager James Wood said: “The easing of lockdown restrictions from next week is excellent news!

“We have seen a huge increase in bookings for May onwards. Staycation seems to be the theme with all our family rooms booked out.

“Public confidence seems to have returned and along with the announcement by the Prime Minister on Monday, there is a feeling that the plans won’t be cancelled.

“It is important for guests to be able to have a flexible cancellation policy – here at Bliss ours is 24 hours prior to arrival.

“We are looking forward to the much welcome return of our leisure guests and we will be looking to wow them on their return to Bliss with a brand new Roof Garden layout and some exciting new dishes on our menu.”

Bliss Hotel has implemented a number of Covid safety measures to give staying guests every confidence, adhering to the most recent UK Government guidelines. Safety is their first priority. The venue has implemented its Staying Safe Together policy to ensure the highest standard of cleanliness throughout the premises and has put social distancing measures in place to keep everyone safe.

The Bliss Hotel story started in 2018 with one unique hotel situated on a stunning Waterfront complex in the coastal destination of Southport, overlooking Marine Lake as well as the sweeping views and the endless sunsets of the Ribble Estuary and Irish Sea.

Bliss was born from a mix of wanting to challenge convention and be the change pioneers in hotel experiences.

Bliss is an award winning four-star luxury boutique hotel, with 131 luxury bedrooms and penthouses, a Roof Garden and spaces to accommodate guests and private functions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed at his Downing Street Briefing on Monday that indoor hospitality at restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs will be allowed to reopen from next Monday (17th May).

Hotels, B&Bs, guest houses, cinemas, theatres, museums, children’s centres and other attractions will also be allowed to welcome back customers.

The announcement is fantastic news for businesses across Southport, which welcomed 9.1million visitors in 2019, the year before the Covid pandemic struck.

Over 6,500 jobs in Southport are dependent on the tourism industry and business owners in the resort are excitedly preparing to welcome back guests.

Southport Business Improvement District CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “Southport has a thriving tourism and hospitality sector, and hundreds of local businesses will be delighted with the news that they can now get ready to welcome back customers.

“There is no better place than Southport for a day out, a holiday or a staycation and we are looking forward to giving a warm welcome to visitors as they return.

“With many restrictions in place on foreign travel this year, we hope that 2021 will be the year of the Staycation which will allow hotels, restaurants, bars and attractions across our town to start to bounce back from the impact of the pandemic.

“I hope people in Southport will also give all the support they can to our local businesses, which have had such a tough time these past few months.

“If you’ve missed your meals out, your nights out and your days out then please take your pick of the many superb places that we have in our town.”

A number of exciting events are planned to take place this year including Southport Comedy Festival, Southport Food and Drink Festival, the British Musical Fireworks Championship, UB40 at Victoria Park, Comedy In The Park and more besides.

Earlier this year, Southport BID completed its programme of providing a “boulevard of lights” along the entire length of the mile-long Lord Street boulevard, with 300,000 lights providing a beautiful atmosphere for night-time diners, revellers and shoppers.

The Southport Town Deal board has provided £900,000 funding towards the transformation of Southport Market into an exciting new food, drink and events venue. The market, being converted in a project led by Sefton Council, is due to open within the next few weeks.
