Wow, what a difference a week makes! The sun is shining and the spring flowers have started to squeeze through, everywhere you look there are snowdrops, crocuses and even daffodils stretching in the sunlight.

There is a real frisson of excitement in the air too as the Road Map schedule sinks in and businesses and consumers can look forward to coming out of lockdown at long last.

We’ve certainly seen a sharp upturn in advertising enquiries over the past few days as confidence creeps back into the private sector. This is wonderful news for everyone and hopefully sees the end of our enforced and prolonged hibernation.

When we start to see the daffodils it’s a sure sign that Mother’s Day is just around the corner and this year we have the ‘Marvelous Mother’s Day’ Giveaway to look forward to. Starting on Sunday 7 March  we will give away a super prize every day until Friday 12  March.

We have some amazing prizes that have been donated by local businesses including a fantastic 5-course meal for two from Savoy-trained chef, Harrison Brown from his new ‘Harri’s Heat at Home’ range. The meal is worth a whopping £110 and would be the perfect way to show your Mum how much she means to you. We also have a stunning bouquet, deli hamper, wine & bubbles, Afternoon Tea and a selection of pampering treats – so don’t miss the daily prize reveal during the Breakfast Show. Listeners will be able to enter during that day and then the winner will be announced during the Home Time show after 5pm. So keep your eyes and ears peeled!

Following on the heels of Mother’s Day is Easter and we will shortly be letting you know all about our Easter Egg Appeal. You will have the opportunity to donate chocolate eggs that will be taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital & Charity as well donations to Southport Baby Bank and other local charities too. There will be numerous drop off points and we will announce them soon on air, the website and on social media. We have done this before and it is a really wonderful organisation to be involved with, we hope that everyone will get on board and help us take a mountain of chocolate Easter Eggs.

Last but not least, it’s been a long time in the making but the Southport Town Deal process has at last borne fruit as Southport is granted £37.5m from the Government.

This is going to mean so much for the area in terms of improving the infrastructure, tourism offer and employment prospects and will ultimately ensure that Southport is a much better place to visit, work and live. There are a number of major projects within the overarching remit and we are thrilled that this initial grant will in turn act as a catalyst for even further investment.

We spoke in further detail regarding the town deal as well as the vital Southport to Manchester rail link with Southport MP Damien Moore this week too. You can hear that interview, in full, on our website.

Exciting times are coming and we at Sandgrounder Radio will be keen to help push this forward and add value wherever possible.
