Work to improve Southport Market Quarter will take place this March.
Some minor snagging and maintenance works on Les Transformations de Southport Phase 1 are taking place from Tuesday 3rd March 2026 over a period of two weeks.
A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “These works will be taking place across the scheme, and this is part of a normal process, addressing issues that arise once the scheme has been in use.
“These works will ensure that the scheme will look its best.
“Additionally, King Street will be closed for a short period during off-peak hours to minimise disruption, from 9:30am to 3pm to fix drainage issues on the rain gardens. This is expected to take no longer than five days depending on weather conditions, and the road will be re-opened outside of these off-peak hours.
“Rain gardens and tree pits add to the landscaping of the area and are a key part of the sustainability and water management of the scheme.

“The gaps in the edging of the rain gardens ensure that water from the hard surface of the pavement and road drain into the plant bed and then slowly drain into a tank underneath. This then slowly releases water into the sewage system. This helps prevent the sewer overflowing and reduces pollution of watercourses from sewer overflows.
“As the trees and plants grow, these will also help absorb water, helping with surface runoff and adding greenery to our streets.
“During periods of very heavy rain, some puddles may form until it soaks through the soil. The works on King Street will ensure that the rain gardens are functioning as they should.
“Bins for the new works are currently being finalised and we expect them to be installed shortly.”
