Work has now begun on creating the £1.5 million new Southport Enterprise Arcade.

The ambitious scheme, in the Crown buildings on Eastbank Street, will be Southport’s second digital incubator space for start-up businesses and entrepreneurs after the opening of Werksy earlier this month.

The scheme, being led by Sefton Council and designed by K2 Architects, will create almost 900m2 of space for digital and creative start-ups and scale-ups.

It is one of the central schemes of Southport Town Deal, which saw £37.5 million funding received from the Government to support regeneration projects such as the new Marine Lake Events Centre, Southport Market and Les Transformation de Southport.

The first equipment needed for the Southport Enterprise Arcade construction work has arrived next to The Atkinson buildings on Lord Street today, outside Southport Library.

The initial preparatory work will be followed by the installation of scaffolding going up in the coming weeks, which is when the works would really begin.

Skyline Property Solutions Ltd will lead on the interior refurbishment and refit of Crown Buildings.

Tenants are expected to start moving into the building by the end of the year.

The Enterprise Arcade project reaffirms the commitment of Sefton Council and its partners to maximising the potential of the digital, creative and technological sectors within the resort, as well as supporting the continued diversification of the borough’s economy and the continued growth of entrepreneurship in Sefton.

Speaking last year, the now Sefton Council Leader Cllr Marion Atkinson said:

“This is a key project for the regeneration and economic diversification of Southport’s economy.

“The Enterprise Arcade will incorporate Crown Buildings and retail units on the ground floor of Eastbank Street.

“The new, repurposed workspace will join Southport’s regenerated and already successful Southport Market in demonstrating how new life can be brought back to these fantastic buildings, encouraging more investment and helping secure a positive future for the town.”
