The new Woodlands Animal Sanctuary community hub is officially opening its doors in Southport this weekend.

The centre is opening at 67 Eastbank Street, in the former Southport & Ormskirk RSPCA charity shop unit, from 10.30am this Saturday (7th February 2026).

People are welcome to call in, say hello to the team and take a look around.

A Woodlands spokesperson said: “We’re coming to Southport!

“For years the people of Southport have stood by us. Now we’re coming to you.

“Our latest Woodlands Community hub is now open, with our official grand opening this Saturday at 10.30am on Eastbank Street.

“What we’re about:

* Pet food bank for struggling owners

* Animal encounter opportunities for all ages

* Quality preloved clothes, toys, furniture and household goods

“This isn’t just another charity shop on the high street. It’s about accessibility, education, and preventing abuse before it happens. It’s about being there in the communities that need us most.

“The retail? That just helps us cover the costs of caring for those we rescue.

“None of this would be possible without you.

“Come say hello at our grand opening – you’ve made it all happen.”

Woodlands Animal Sanctuary was established in 2005 and is based at Woodlands Farm, Sandy Lane, Holmeswood, L40 1UE, near Rufford.

Its goal is “To relieve the suffering of animals of any species who are in need of care and attention, and in particular to provide or maintain refuge, secure homes, sanctuaries or other facilities for the reception and care of unwanted animals and the treatment of sick or ill-treated animals.”

In 20 years of rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming animals across the North West Woodlands has been able to save thousands of lives –  thanks to the generosity of donors, volunteers and supporters.

Its mission is to provide every vulnerable animal with the love and care that they deserve; empowering and educating the local community and providing much needed support to other local rescues.
