The Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy is coming to Firwood Waterloo Rugby Club in Blundellsands this Sunday (22nd February 2026).
The visit is part of a national campaign to raise awareness and inspire participation in women’s and girls’ rugby.
To celebrate the occasion the club is holding a free rugby fun day – open to all girls – featuring former Red Roses, rugby skills sessions, arts and crafts, face painting and hair design.
The current generation of girls is following a proud tradition of women’s rugby at Waterloo which has produced famous England internationals including Gill Burns, who won the World Cup in 1994, and current Red Roses World Cup winner Holly Aitchison.

Speaking about the day, Firwood Waterloo President Phil Cooper said:
“It’s a real honour to welcome the World Cup to the Club. We are very much looking forward to Sunday and the opportunity to give as many girls as possible the opportunity to see the Cup and try out what is a fantastic and fun game for all.”
World Cup winner and women’s rugby trailblazer Gill Burns will be at the event on Sunday along with other former Red Roses.

Firwood Waterloo Women’s and Girls’ Chair, Fiona Henderson, said:
“We are honoured the RFU has chosen Firwood Waterloo to host the Women’s World Cup trophy. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our history, welcome back former players, and inspire the next generation of women and girls to pick up a rugby ball.”
The Cup will be at Firwood Waterloo, on St Anthony’s Road, Blundellsands, Liverpool, L23 8TW, from 9am to 11am on Sunday 22 February.
