Over £1,500 has been raised for Comic Relief after hundreds of local families supported a huge Teddy Bear Rehoming Day at the TX Maxx store in Southport.
The colourful event saw excited children able to call into the store, at the Marble Place shopping centre on Chapel Street in Southport town centre.
On display were over 800 teddy bears and soft toys, which had been donated by local people, and by TK Maxx stores across the Liverpool city region and throughout the North East of England.
The bears were set out under different themes as youngsters were able to choose and take home which one they wanted, in return for a donation for Comic Relief.
Themes included: Teddy Bears Picnic; Under The Sea; The Dog House; Safari; To The Carnival; Jurassic Park; On Screen Stars; and more.
Each one came with its own Rehoming Certificate with children able to choose their own name for their new friend.

A fun day held on the Saturday also saw the Sparkle Monster face painter in store, balloons being given out and characters saying hello.
It was another great reason for families to call into Southport town centre. Just outside the shopping centre was one of 10 bear sculptures in the We’re Going On A Bear Hunt themed trail which has been created by Southport BID and Sefton Council.
Colleagues at the TK Maxx store in Southport have had a busy few weeks of fundraising for Comic Relief, which included auctioning six Wallace and Gromit t-shirts hand signed by Aardman Animations founder and Oscar winner Nick Park.
The team in Southport also created a fantastic lip sync video to the tune of Elton John’s ‘I’m Still Standing’, filmed at the store and in locations around the town, including on Southport Beach.
TK Maxx Southport has been selling a range of Wallace and Gromit and Mr Men themed t-shirts, bottles, canvas bags and other goods on sale as part of their Comic Relief initiative.

TK Maxx Southport Assistant Manager Carol Clarke said:
“Our Teddy Bear Rehoming event was a huge success! It was lovely seeing everyone.
“We raised over £1,500 for Comic Relief and we’d like to thank everyone who came to enjoy the weekend and to give a teddy bear a new home!
“We’re grateful to all the families which donated soft toys, and to colleagues at our fellow TK Maxx stores which supported our appeal.

“It was a brilliant weekend, with such a lovely atmosphere. It was beautiful to see the expressions on the children’s faces as they found their perfect bear to take home with them.
“It was one of the busiest weekends I have seen inside Marble Place, with around 6,000 visitors. “It was great to bring so many people into the town centre, which hopefully had a positive effect on local businesses nearby too.
“Any soft toys we had left over at the end of the weekend went to our Warrington store where they had their own fundraising event, which saw them raise £1,000 for Comic Relief.”
