As we step into the new year, there’s no better time to make a positive impact in Southport and surrounding areas than through volunteering.

Whether you’re passionate about protecting nature, supporting mental health, inspiring young people, or fostering inclusion for individuals with disabilities, there’s a volunteering opportunity waiting for you.

Volunteering is more than just giving your time—it’s a chance to connect with others, develop new skills, and bring about meaningful change. In 2025, why not take the step to give back in a way that resonates with your values and passions?

Active Sefton Walk Leaders

Active Walks Sefton is looking for volunteers in Southport and Formby to help lead walks including Sunday wellbeing walks. There are lots of walks to choose from and full walk leader training is provided. Once trained as a wellbeing walk leader, you can start leading the walks with the support of the walk coordinator and other volunteer leaders.

Woodvale & Ainsdale Community Association

This charity offers daytime, evening, and school holiday activities for people of all ages in the local community. From warm spaces to a lunch club and youth sessions, Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Association are central to the local community.

They are looking for volunteers to help with refreshments, preparing food, garden maintenance and more.

Home Start Southport and Formby

Home Start is looking for volunteers to offer 2-3 hours a week to help a local family. Volunteers will offer regular support, friendship, and practical help to families with young children who are going through difficult times. This may be in the family’s home or taking them out in the local community. Home Start is a national charity that works with families in communities across the UK. Starting in the home, their approach is as individual as the people they are helping. No judgement, it is just compassionate, confidential help and expert support.

Hospice Africa Charity Shop – Ainsdale

The Hospice Africa charity shop, on Heathfield Road, is looking for volunteers to help them with a variety of tasks including sorting donations, working the till and helping to keep the shop clean and tidy.

The Hospice Africa charity was founded in Liverpool in 1992 by Dr Anne Merriman with the vision of palliative care for all those in need in Africa. Based primarily in Uganda, Hospice Africa has treated over 37,000 patients.
